I’ve had Snow Leopard installed for a while now on my Mac, but only just noticed that every time I tried to use Spotlight, it would throw up the ‘Spotlight is indexing’, ‘Time remaining’ warning … So I just ignored it.
I only noticed this weekend though that it still hadn’t indexed my hard drive and by the look of things, it wasn’t going to for a long time.
I tried many things to fix this. None of them worked. i tried using Terminal to get Spotlight to stop indexing my hard drive, but to no avail. I tried getting it to do a fresh index, Still didn’t work.
The Fix
In the end, I rebooted my Mac into ‘safe mode‘. To do this you need to hold down the shift key when it reboots. I did nothing, as the phone rang. I then logged back on, rebooted into ‘normal’ mode and hey presto!
It was fixed.
So, I’m not sure what I did, but it fixed it. :-D
Job’s a good ‘un!
