The Internet is like alcohol in some sense. It accentuates what you would do anyway. If you want to be a loner, you can be more alone. If you want to connect, it makes it easier to connect

No sun - no moon!
No morn - no noon -
No dawn - no dusk - no proper time of day.
No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease,
No comfortable feel in any member -
No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds! -
November!
I think that says it all, a great poem by Thomas Hood (1789-1845).

I would just like to congratulate Mr Obama for an outstanding victory in the US election. Maybe now the USA can become the great nation it has the promise to be.

Over the last week I've seen one website take the Internet by storm. Is it the end for Last.fm?
Grooveshark is the newcomer to the field of online music streaming. In my opinion they have a better user interface and it is much easier to use.
It is designed with the iPod generation in mind, slick web 2.0 styles in consistent with branding from Apple. Last.fm recently rebranded, although I like the design more than the previous, I don't think they took it far enough.
One of the biggest things about Last.fm that pisses me off is that on many tracks you're limited to 30 seconds. It all just feels a little forced.
Grooveshark overcomes all that. Without logging in you are presented with a slick interface, built like an online jukebox - not a social network website.
Another fine example of gradual engagement, i wouldn't have signed up instantly - but after using it for most of the week, I'll be shortly getting myself an account.
Great work guys!

Color Oracle takes the guesswork out of designing for colour blindness by showing you in real time what people with common colour vision impairments will see. Color Oracle applies a full screen colour filter to art you are designing – independently of the software that you are using.
Eight percent of all males are affected by color vision impairement – make sure that your graphical work is readable by the widest possible audience!

Today is Blog Action Day, a day where bloggers around the world participate to spread one simple message - 'Make Poverty History'.
In time like these, with the dreaded CC going on you can help yourself whilst helping others. Until recently I would walk past second hand shops without even blinking, but after one day taking the plunge and exploring the depths of our local Oxfam shop I found that there were a wealth of goodies on offer. From t-shirts (some which still have the tags on) to some classic records that sound great through my new LP player.
The best part is, you can walk out of the shop with about £100 of stuff and only pay £15. An absolute bargain, all the while helping some impoverished people.
So my top tip at the moment is forget spending all of you money in the big shopping malls and get yourself to your local charity shop.

A great article by Cameron Moll. Many aspects covered such as 'How to make a dynamic website accessible', basics on screen readers, and 'How to alert a user who can not see'.

First off, it’s a great site by Andy Clarke.
Second, I discovered 2 great articles. One on 5 design principles Andy can live without across all browsers. Of course browser support varies for new specs. I like his point of view. The second article is about stopping showing clients static visuals, again he makes brilliant points that I totally agree with. Clients can’t fully grasp what’s in the designers head from a static visual. HTML prototypes all the way.

A Youtube video showcasing new HTML5 elements that work in current browsers with demos.
This is all good and well, but what about XHTML2?
HTML5 looks like it’s added too many aditional tags and the code is going to become bulky. XHTML2 look alot more streamlined.
